G20 Meltdown continue to use revolutionary words

http://www.altg20.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/n760566473_2914.jpg

I got a message this morning from Marina Pepper, one of the figureheads of the G20 Meltdown demonstrations. I’ve been getting these messages for a while; they always come across in what I assumed was a fantasy renegade tone but increasingly I think she’s being entirely serious. Fundamentalist christians say the darndest things

Mockery is probably the lowest form of comedy, but what if you could mock someone simply by repeating what they say? This was Sarah Palin’s problem in the election, but now fundamentalist Christians are getting the same treatment.

The guys in this video are reading word for word things written on fundamentalist Christian forums all across the internet. Since putting the video together, the website which they got their source material from has crashed over and over under the pressure of so many people trying to access it. Luckily for you I found the site in question stored safely in google’s cache. You can see it here Read more »

KFC announce a new higher standard in food

I’m sure you’ve heard the news. KFC have spread their wings and flown from their proverbial nest of budget eateries and landed in the world of aspirational cooking. Their chicken is now fresh and it’s prepared by young, handsome,  enthusiastic and ambitious chefs. In fact they are now such a quality food outlet that I’m  planning my Saturdays around a trip to KFC, with such quality meals and good value I’d be a fool not to. Read more »

Alfie isn’t the dad!

Alfie Patten: The 13-year-old is upset at claims he is not father of Maisie

Who can forget the story from February about Alfie, the seemingly pre-pubescent child who became the proud father of Maisie with his one time girlfriend Chantelle. It was a romance whirlwind that captivated the international press into a hysteria, “The morals of the UK have gone DOWN THE PAN!” they shouted, “What awful parenting!” people roared. Read more »

The G20 Meltdown

Things are rumbling. Gordon Brown was attacked by Daniel Hannan at the European Parliament, the video which has now had more than 1.1 million views in as little as two days – perhaps it’s a barometer for public opinion of the government? In the mean time, the road to the G20 in London has begun, and one University Professor has already been suspended inciting violence towards bankers and the Police. Read more »

Your phonecalls are monitored, soon your facebook will be too

Facebook spying

I’m really angry. I hope you’ll find it in you to forgive my unprofessionalism during this entry, I fear my contempt for all things government may spill into my writing. Maybe I should just embrace it.

Of all places, I heard about this particular story on Radio 1. Maybe that’s reason to be slightly less disheartened at the endless apathy of the UK youth (which is apparently my fault). Maybe it’s a testament to this idea being so Orwellian that even X-Factor and Chris Moyles zombies have raised an eyebrow. You’ve all heard it: the Government want to spy on your social networking. They want to look at any social networking site to learn who you are talking to and how often, that means they’ll be spying on sites like Bebo, Myspace, Facebook and Twitter – any social network that allows people to instant message. They say they’ll only look at who you are talking to, not what you are saying.  Get out of the habit of hearing ridiculous statements involving the Government then erasing them from your mind. Read the suggestion out loud:

“The Government has announced plans to spy on you” Read more »

Fox have become the zoolander of news

Fox has taken a new editorial direction and I applaud their bravado and drive. On top of endless lies, misrepresentations, distortion and omission, it seems the guys at the top have decided to further peddle armchair arrogance and ignorance in the drive to improve figures. Read more »

The IDF wear t-shirts that mock the killing of pregnant women and children in Gaza

IDF T-shirts awarded on completion of training

The shirt on the right says “the smaller, the harder” while the shirt on the left depicts a pregnant woman in the crosshairs of a rifle with the words “1 shot 2 kills”.

One shirt depicted a woman crying over her dead child with crosshairs over her head and a slogan suggesting she should never have given birth, “better use Durex”.

The IDF insist these t-shirts are not in-line with their values but have so far not sought to punish any of the soldiers caught wearing them. This all comes after dissenting voices in the IDF have broken the silence on what was really going on during Israel’s offensive on Gaza which left more than 1300 people dead, many of them women and children.

A squad leader said: “At the beginning the directive was to enter a house with an armoured vehicle, to break the door down, to start shooting inside and – I call it murder – to shoot at everyone we identify. In the beginning I asked myself how could this make sense? Higher-ups said it is permissible because everyone left in the city [Gaza City] is culpable because they didn’t run away.”

In another example, a soldier describes how a family was released after being held captive for many days,

“The platoon commander let the family go and told them to go to the right. One mother and her two children didn’t understand and went to the left, but they forgot to tell the sharpshooter on the roof they had let them go and it was okay… The sharpshooter saw a woman and children approaching him. He shot them straight away. I don’t think he felt too bad about it, because, as far as he was concerned, he did his job according to the orders he was given. And the atmosphere in general, from what I understood from most of my men who I talked to, the lives of Palestinians, let’s say, is something very, very less important than the lives of our soldiers.” source

Defence Minister Ehud Barak told Israel Radio that the findings would be examined seriously. “I still say we have the most moral army in the world. Of course there may be exceptions but I have absolutely no doubt this will be inspected on a case-by-case basis,” he said

The IDF are conducting an investigation, if you listen to the audio on this link you can hear a spokesman trying to defend the IDF position. Peace activists are demanding an independent investigation into these allegations citing that the “few bad apples” idea peddled by Ehud Barak and others is a cover for the whole of the IDF being morally corrupt.

A talking dog

In stark contrast to my last post, here is a video of a dog which appears to talk. It’s only a matter of time before dogs like this one are running the show. Be afraid.

The people who allegedly tortured prisoners in Abu Ghraib are coming to your door

I heard about this strange story through a friend who has family in Scotland. Last week his mother had two men knock at her door and explain they were carrying out a “rehearsal” census and that she needed to take part. His mum wasn’t easily persuaded into answering any questions and sent the men on their way only for them to return later with more staff to try and convince her to take part.

She didn’t take part in the “rehearsal census” and later heard from a group of activists that the company knocking at her door was CACTI. Read more »
